Did I mention I love donuts?

We had a breakfast thing and I wanted to try something a little healthier while also still being tasty. I googled “healthy donuts” and found a whole huge list of items at:

I did not want to buy really specific items for a recipe I might not like or try again, and I wanted it to sound interesting. What I ended up selecting were Turmeric Honey donuts from The Foodie Dietitian.

I don’t really like Greek yogurt because depending on the brand it ends up tasking like flavored sour cream to me. I’m probably the only person who feels this way. My husband on the other hand likes the variety pack of triple zero Greek yogurt from Oikos. So the peach flavor is what I used instead and as with most of my substitutions it turned out perfectly fine. But with this style of yogurt, the flavor is really mild. They’re great because they have about 6g of sugar serving and one personal tub was pretty much the exact amount I needed. Maybe if I had used a regular yogurt or a crazy flavor it would have thrown off the donuts.

The recipe made enough for two dozen mini donuts and then some! The first batch turned out really dense while the second was much more light and fluffy. I attribute this to filling the pan more the second time around so that it rose well about the edges. Getting them out of the pan was a little difficult. The didn’t slide right out as I was expecting when I flipped them and when I tried to grab them out they dented really easily. Using a soft spreading spatula to loosen the edges then flick them out worked like a charm! I let them cool and dusted with powdered sugar but by the morning the sugar had absorbed into the donut. 🙁

You definitely get the honey taste from the donuts and the color is so pretty with the turmeric dying it. These definitely tasted on the healthier side because I’m used to a lot of sugar. I probably wouldn’t make these again simple because when I eat a donut, I really mean for it to be a dessert rather than a breakfast option. So that sweetness is what I’m looking for. The overall product was just what I wanted and recipe was easy to follow. I got compliments all around for them and had none left over. Just because these weren’t to my donut preference, they fit great all around for many taste buds which is all that matters when I’m cooking for others. The Turmeric and Honey Donuts paired well with breakfast flavors and were a hit!
